Sun Records Celebrates Robert Randolph’s First GRAMMY® Award Win for Preacher Kids

Sun Records proudly celebrates Robert Randolph, who took home his first GRAMMY® Award on Sunday night, winning Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 68th Annual GRAMMY® Awards for Preacher Kids. The win marks a major career milestone for Randolph, following seven GRAMMY nominations, and continues a historic moment for Sun Records.

Released via Sun Records and produced by Shooter Jennings, Preacher Kids is a raw, gospel-rooted blues rock album that channels faith, family, rebellion, and redemption into a sound that is gritty, jam-driven, and deeply personal. Known for redefining the Sacred Steel tradition and bringing pedal steel to the forefront of blues, rock, gospel, and soul, Randolph uses Preacher Kids to explore legacy and identity through unfiltered storytelling and live-wire performances. The album was recorded at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles with an instinct-first approach that favored feel, spirit, and truth over polish.

“This one means everything,” said Randolph. “After years of being nominated, to finally win for Preacher Kids feels incredibly affirming. This album came from a real place. It’s about where we come from, what we carry, and how we find our way forward. I’m beyond grateful to Shooter Jennings, my band, and the entire Sun Records team for believing in this record and letting it be exactly what it needed to be.”

The win also marks a significant moment for Sun Records, representing the legendary label’s second GRAMMY® Award win and its second consecutive year winning Best Contemporary Blues Album. Last year, Ruthie Foster earned the same honor for Mileage, signaling a powerful resurgence for the historic label within contemporary blues.

“Robert Randolph is an artist who refuses to play it safe,” said Paul Sizelove, President of Sun Label Group. “Preacher Kids is fearless, soulful, and deeply rooted in who he is. Watching Robert earn his first GRAMMY after years of recognition is incredibly rewarding, and it speaks to the kind of artists Sun Records is committed to supporting. To see this happen for the second year in a row in the same category is something we’re immensely proud of.”

With Preacher Kids, Randolph adds a GRAMMY win to an already remarkable career that includes collaborations with Beyoncé, Eric Clapton, Santana, Norah Jones, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band, and many others. He recently contributed pedal steel to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which won Album of the Year, and continues to bridge genres while honoring the spiritual and musical traditions that shaped him.

As Sun Records builds on its legacy of shaping American music, Randolph’s win underscores a renewed era for the label — one rooted in honoring tradition while amplifying artists who push the sound forward.
